PHOENIX -- Two illegal immigrants were arrested by Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday after DPS officers pulled over an SUV.

The vehicle was heading north out of the Valley when it was stopped by DPS for a window tinting violation.

Officers said approximately 10 Hispanic males jumped out of the SUV after it was stopped and ran into the desert.

DPS and MCSO deputies initiated a search and were able to locate two men hiding under thick brush. The remaining suspects were not found.

The two suspects who were apprehended reportedly told deputies that they were from Mexico and had paid $2,900 to be taken to Los Angeles.

They were booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on state felony human smuggling charges.
