Study: Many kids use drugs, alcohol during school day

PHOENIX -- Nearly one in five students -- almost 20 percent -- of students between the ages of 12 and 17 do drugs, drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes during the school day found a recent study by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.

The organization also discovered that nine of 10 high school students know at least one classmate who uses during day. In addition, almost half know a student who sells drugs at school.

Caleb Mitchell, a counselor who specializes in working with teens and young adults, sat down with Kaley O'Kelley to discuss warning signs or potential drug abuse and what parents need to know to keep their kids safe and clean.
