PHOENIX -- A serious crash on the Beeline Highway Monday night may be connected to a homicide under investigation.

Officers from the Salt River Police Department responded to the crash on state Route 87 south of Shea Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m. At least one person was transported to the hospital.

The Department of Public Safety closed the southbound lanes for several hours.

Police said it is possible the crash is connected to a homicide that officers responded to about 30 minutes later.

Officers went to the 13700 block of North Beeline Highway within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community after receiving a report of a VIP taxicab in the front yard of a vacant trailer home.

The officers found a man who was unconscious and without a pulse.

He had suffered apparent serious injuries consistent with blunt-force trauma and was pronounced dead, according to police spokesman Detective Vicente Cendejas.

The man's name is not being released at this time.

SRPD detectives are continuing to investigate.
