PHOENIX -- A young child who was found at the bottom of a swimming pool has died.
Firefighters were called around 4 p.m. on Saturday after a 4-year-old boy was found in the pool of the E-Z 8 Motel on 7th Street near Interstate 17.
Authorities said there was apparently a miscommunication between family members as to who was supposed to be watching the child.
"When they started looking for him, that's when a few of the other children noticed he was at the bottom of the pool, jumped the fence and pulled the child out," said Larry Nunez with the Phoenix Fire Department.
The boy was first said to be in critical condition at the hospital, but he eventually lost his life.
It’s not known how long the child was in the pool, or if any charges will be filed.
