SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A Surprise man was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on Wednesday night for allegedly stabbing his friend.

Police responded to the area of 14900 West Grand Avenue after a 48-year-old man who was covered in blood ran across the street to get the attention of an ambulance that was in the area.

Prior to running to the ambulance, the man had been a passenger in a car driven by 18-year-old Connor Lake.

The man had already been taken to the hospital by the time authorities arrived, but Lake was still at the scene.

While investigating the incident, officers learned that Lake was the suspect in the case.

Lake told investigators that he had been driving the victim, who he said was his friend, to the hospital when the man forced the car to stop so he could get help from the ambulance.

According to police, Lake would later admit that he stabbed the man in the area of Honeysuckle Lane and Larkspur Lane during an argument.

Lake was subsequently arrested and booked on an aggravated assault charge, which is a class 3 felony.

The victim is in the hospital in critical condition. Police are continuing to investigate the case.
