MARICOPA, Ariz. -- Heavy rains have left residents of Maricopa battling floods.
Marciopa Mayor Christian Price was forced to declare a state of emergency as residents of the town just south of the Valley spent Wednesday trying to find some relief from the wet conditions.
More than an inch and a half of rain fell Tuesday night, forcing homeowners to try to protect their property with sandbags.
“Kept coming, and kept coming, and pretty soon it was all the way up to the door. Of course four more inches and it would have been in the house,” said resident Steve Speck.
The concern for those living in Maricopa is that more rain will hit the area on Wednesday night.
“If we get this much more again tonight we thought we could be in trouble,” added Speck.
