Salon owner has credit card dispute

PHOENIX -- A businesswoman has a problem with her bank and turned to 3 On Your Side.

This is a $253 problem. The sticking point is with her bank and the credit card it issued her. The credit card was supposed to offer perks like "cash back," but getting that cash, she said, is impossible.

April Brewer has been cutting and styling hair for years now. In fact, she's owned and operated a salon called Bad Hair Days for nearly 20 years.

"There's a lot of licensing and stuff we have to take care of and a lot of promotions," she said. "We really try to keep our clients happy, so it takes a lot work."

And running a business, Brewer said, means having the right bank for her business account. For that, she said she's been relying on U.S. Bank for almost a decade.

Not long ago, U.S. Bank convinced Brewer to connect her business to a credit card but not just any credit card. US Bank said its credit card would help her accumulate cash for every dollar she spent.

"And I thought I'd use it for the business and it would be great to get a little bit of extra money back," Brewer said.

Brewer used the credit card to buy salon supplies and made other business purchases with the card. She eventually racked up more than $200 in "cash back" but when it came time to getting her $200, her account said zero, as in she had nothing to claim.

"Well, my first thought was there was a glitch somewhere," Brewer said. "You know, that sometimes happens."

Brewer contacted U.S. Bank, which told her the "cash back" program had ended and any money she accumulated was gone.

They told Brewer she should have received a letter telling her that, but she said she never received a letter.

"I am frustrated," she said. "I don't know who to go to get any help."

3 On Your Side got a hold of U.S Bank and told them about Brewer and her long-standing relationship with them. After looking into matter for me, U.S. Bank got a hold of Brewer and told her they would return her $200 in cash back rewards so she could claim it.

Brewer said she couldn't have done it without the help of 3 On Your Side.

“Well, before we weren’t getting anywhere and I really didn’t know who to go to, but Gary called me today and said it was all fixed so he was able to get quick results for us, so that was great!” she said.

U.S. Bank was great to work with. In the meantime, if you have a credit card that offers perks, keep an eye on them and make sure you redeem everything before the program expires.
