PHOENIX -- Two people riding a motorcycle were killed in a collision with a car Monday evening near Seventh Street and Loop 101 in Phoenix.
According to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump, a silver Mazda was attempting to turn left onto northbound Seventh Street from the stop sign at Oraibi Drive when it collided with a southbound Yamaha motorcycle.
Crump said the motorcycle hit the Mazda driver's door at a high speed. The man and woman on the motorcycle were wearing helmets, but they both sustained fatal injuries.
They were identified as Jeremy Steves, 22, and Chantal Larrabee, 22.
The 32-year-old driver of the Mazda was transported to a nearby hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.
She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Her passengers, ages 8 and 11, were restrained and escaped without injury.
Crump said witnesses saw the motorcycle darting in and out of traffic and driving at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.
There were no indicators of impairment noted at the scene and the case is under investigation.
