PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is thanking an observant passerby for helping them arrest a Peoria man on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

On July 28, the witness reportedly saw Brian Fortner, 27, throw away a duffle bag that appeared to still be in good condition.

The passerby took the bag from the dumpster and found images of child pornography inside. The passerby also found Fortner’s wallet and driver’s license in the bag.

Soon after retrieving the bag, the passerby told deputies that Fortner returned, searched through the dumpster, and then left.

Police began investigating Fortner, and went on to conduct a search warrant at his home at North 71 Drive in Peoria.

A computer and other items were seized at Fortner’s house, and he eventually admitted to deputies that he had visited child pornography websites and printed images.

Fortner was arrested on Thursday morning and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.
