Man indicted in Casa Grande murderPosted: Updated:
FLORENCE, Ariz. -- A Casa Grande resident has been indicted for the murder of a 29-year-old man last year.
A Pinal County Grand Jury returned a one-count indictment charging Rashad Gaines, 19, with second-degree murder.
"Violent acts like this destroy our communities," said Pinal County Attorney James P. Walsh. "We must hold people accountable for their actions."
According to the indictment, Gaines shot and killed Derek Shea Luedke in Casa Grande on April 23, 2011.
"The Casa Grande Police Department conducted a long and thorough investigation, which led to Gaines' arrest and indictment," said Kostas Kalaitzidis, spokesman for the Pinal County attorney's office.
In a separate case, Gaines was indicted by a Pinal County Grand Jury for armed robbery in Casa Grande. That offense took place on April 28, according to the indictment.
Gaines is scheduled to be arraigned for both crimes Friday at Pinal County Superior Court in Florence.
Gaines was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention facility on a $500,000 bond.
