Reward increased to help locate escaped inmatePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Silent Witness has increased a reward to help find a wanted fugitive.
Rocky Marquez, 33, is wanted for escape, weapons violations and other felony criminal charges.
Marquez escaped from the Lower Buckeye Jail near 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road in Phoenix at approximately 2 a.m. on May 14.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Marquez stole the identity of an inmate who was about to be released from jail legitimately.
Based on that stolen ID, Marquez was mistakenly released. MCSO said Marquez and the other inmate swapped ID bracelets, which is what deputies use to verify each inmate's information when they are released.
Surveillance video from the jail shows Marquez calmly walking out the door with several other released inmates. He has not been seen since.
It's not clear if somebody picked up Marquez or if he simply walked away from the jail,
Marquez is a Hispanic male, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds.
Anyone with information about Marquez's location is asked to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or silentwitness.org.
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered in the case. A $500 reward was previously offered.
