TEMPE, Ariz. -- If you are a youngster or are the parent of a youngster who uses the Valley transit system, good news: Tempe is giving away free transit passes.

The passes are for current and new participants of the Tempe Youth Free Transit Pass program. With this offer, kids ages 6 to 18 who live in Tempe will be able ride all Valley Metro bus routes and the METRO Light Rail free of charge.

Free passes are deactivated when the holder turns 19.

If you would like to register for the program, a parent or guardian must be with the children. The parent will also need to bring the child’s birth certificate along with proof that they live in Tempe.

A special on-site registration will be held at the Tempe Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road this Saturday, Aug. 18, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Free passes are also available at the Tempe Transit Store, 200 E. Fifth St., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

For a full list of program requirement including registration forms, contact the Tempe Transit Store at 480-858-2350 or visit the Tempe website by clicking here.
