Roommate arrested in fatal stabbingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police have arrested a man for allegedly stabbing and killing his roommate at their home in Ahwatukee.
Police said Gregory Bell, 51, and his roommate got into an argument early Sunday morning at their residence near 16000 S. 13th Place
The argument eventually turned physical, with Bell stabbing the other person in the chest.
Two witnesses performed CPR on the victim until authorities arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital where they later died.
Bell fled the scene following the stabbing, but was arrested a few miles away when police spotted his car.
"Other officers located the vehicle that was described as leaving the scene and stopped it over off the area of Chandler Blvd. and Ray Rd," said Sgt. Eric Lumley with the Phoenix Police Department. "Identified as an individual in a struggle here at this house. He also had some injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and treated."
Sgt. Lumley said Bell went willingly with officers. Bell is facing charges of second-degree murder and assault.
Police said the victim is a man in his fifties. They have not released his name.
A second roommate was assaulted on Saturday, according to police.
Four people live in the home. Police say two of the roommates witnessed the stabbing. Investigators haven't said what led up to the argument.
A check of court records shows Bell has no criminal history in Arizona.
