Phoenix weather: Hot weekend aheadPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The most optimistic weather models we're looking at show we might see a little relief from these very hot temperatures as we get into the weekend. However, it's still likely Valley highs will be in the range of 110 to 116 both Saturday and Sunday.
Also, we were looking at the potential for some moisture seeping back into Arizona and perhaps giving us a few more thunderstorms this weekend. This does not appear to be the case right now. If anything, we'll continue to see isolated thunderstorms, mainly in northern and eastern Arizona in the higher elevations of our state.
And at this point, the next decent chance for rain for Phoenix won't be until the middle of next week. And even then, the chance for rain is only 20 percent. It's an onimous sign. Last year, the monsoon rain promptly shut off for Phoenix in August and September and so far ... well ... it's worrisome that we could be headed for a repeat of the 2011 Monsoon when we ended up with rainfall much below normal.
