Community helps police identify suspected thiefPosted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ariz. -- The local community has helped Peoria Police identify the man suspected of stealing a donation jar from a convenience store.
On August 3, a man entered a store near 83rd Avenue and Deer Valley Road and asked the cashier for change. The man then told the cashier that he was waiting for a ride and started walking around looking at items in the store.
When the cashier walked away from the counter, the man grabbed a donation jar for the Children’s Miracle Network and fled the store.
The incident was reported to police, who in turn gave a photo of the suspect to a local media outlet. A short time later, several people used the program TipSoft to identify the suspect as 21-year-old Aaron Rivkin.
Police responded to Rivkin’s home, but discovered that he had been arrested the same night as the theft on unrelated charges.
Rivkin is currently in the 4th Avenue Jail, but he will be charged with the theft of the donation jar once he’s released.
