One person killed in rollover crash on Loop 202Posted: Updated:
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- One person was killed early Thursday morning in a crash on the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway ramp to the Loop 101 Price Freeway.
According to a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, two drivers collided on that ramp just after 4 a.m.
"We're still investigating the facts of the case. We don't really have an idea of exactly what transpired. That's what we're trying to figure out right now," said Sgt. Warren Simpson with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
One of the vehicles involved was a GMC Yukon Denali. That SUV rolled, killing the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle.
The other vehicle was a small silver Chevrolet car that slammed into a divider wall. The driver of that car was treated at the scene, but was not transported to the hospital.
Investigators spent hours on the scene working to figure out exactly what happened. They did question the driver of the small car. Officers do not suspect alcohol or impairment is a factor, but it is still early in the investigation.
Once investigators finished their work, crews removed the wrecked cars and cleaned the debris off of the freeway ramp.
That ramp was reopened just after 9 a.m., but that freeway interchange was closed during the morning rush hour causing some major traffic delays for commuters.
DPS said the person who was killed is a male, but they have not yet released his name or any other details about him.
