Part of Northern Avenue closing for Loop 303 constructionPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Valley residents who drive in the area of Northern Avenue and the Loop 303 will want to start adjusting their travel plans.
Northern Avenue will be closed between Cotton Lane and Sarival Avenue for two months starting on August 20 as part of the effort to expand the Loop 303.
During construction, crews will rebuild the intersection at Northern Avenue and the Loop 303. Olive and Glendale avenues are being suggested as alternative routes.
Once Northern Avenue reopens, Olive and Peoria avenues will be closed for 60 days this fall for construction.
The work is part of a $65.1 million project to upgrade the Loop 303 between Glendale and Peoria avenues. The project is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2013.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is also working to widen the Loop 303 between Interstate 10 and Grand Avenue. The project will include a freeway-to-freeway interchange at I-10. The construction is expected to be completed by fall 2014.
