PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police have arrested a man believed to be responsible for a fatal July 4 shooting.

Jaime Cabralez, 21, was apprehended on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, drug charges, and probation violation.

Officers responded to a residence in the area of 1500 West Yavapai on July 4 after receiving word of a shooting.

Authorities arrived to find Darnell Pete lying in the threshold of an open doorway with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his upper body. Pete was declared dead at the scene.

A woman and her two children lived in the home where Pete’s body was found. She told police that she and her kids had been in a bedroom and did not see the shooting. She also stated that she did not know the victim.

After investigating the case further, detectives learned that Cabralez had been involved in a possible drug transaction at the home when the shooting occurred.

Authorities began searching for Cabralez, and were able to locate him on Tuesday when he returned to the residence at 1500 West Yavapai.
