PEORIA, Ariz. -- Police are trying to determine who stole toys from a playground at a Peoria day care center.

Surveillance cameras were rolling at the Lil Pardners Childcare and Preschool near Peoria and 99th avenues, but the video doesn't show much.

"They came through the back, broke the locks and took all of our children's equipment, and now the kids have nothing to play on," said assistant director Joanna Allan.

Two unidentified suspects cut the lock on the back gate on Aug. 4 and made off with about $6,000 worth of toys and playground equipment. The items include a caterpillar play tunnel, a kid's picnic table, a small swing set, children's bikes, a water table, dozens of chairs and two children's tables, along with several children's cars with various designs.

"That's pretty lowdown, I think," Allan said. "I mean, to steal from a day care -- it's bad stealing from anybody -- but the kids really appreciate this and they like playing outside and now they can't."

Because the surveillance video captured so little, the day care center has to rely on help from the public.

"If anybody saw something I'd like them to maybe say something so maybe we could find our toys for our kids," Allan said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Peoria Police Department.
