Surprise police identify shooting suspect

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Police are asking for the public's help to locate a suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting of a 26-year-old man in Surprise.

The victim was shot at least twice shortly after 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the 12700 block of West Cottonwood St. An emergency helicopter flew the victim to an area hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The suspect left the area before police arrived.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division have identified the suspect as Darren Crockett aka "Gato." He is described as a black male, 30 years old, 6 feet tall, bald, with a thin build and green eyes.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
