El Mirage Police arrest smoke shop robbery suspectPosted: Updated:
EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -- El Mirage Police have arrested a man suspected of robbing a smoke shop.
Steven Michael Forkasdi, 38, was apprehended Thursday morning while walking in the area if 129th Avenue and Ash Street.
On July 21, Forkasdi reportedly walked into the Smoke Away Smoke Shop at 13915 N. Dysart Road carrying a handgun. He demanded “window cleaner,” a synthetic drug similar to bath salts, and then left.
The clerk recognized Forkasdi as someone who had been in the store before, and knew that he was known to ride a beach cruiser bike.
On July 31, Forkasdi returned to the Smoke Away Smoke Shop and once again allegedly demanded “window cleaner.” When the clerk failed to fulfill his demand, Forkasdi left the store.
The clerk went on to look at surveillance footage and recognized Forkasdi as the man from the July 21 incident.
On Wednesday, El Mirage Police spotted a beach cruiser similar to the one described by the store clerk. El Mirage Detectives were able to identify Forkadis as the suspect through a photo lineup and took him into custody.
Authorities found evidence related to both crimes during a search of Forkadis’ residence, and he reportedly admitted to being the guilty party.
Forkadis was booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of armed robbery and attempted robbery.
