Suspect killed, several detained in officer-involved shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- One suspect is dead after the execution of a search warrant ended in a gun battle early Thursday morning.
It all started at about 6:30 a.m. when the Surprise Police Department, taking the lead as part of a multi-agency task force, served a search warrant on a home in the neighborhood of 26th Place and McDowell Road.
It's not yet known why the search warrant was issued, but at some point during the operation, the suspect or suspects inside the home opened fire on officers. Those officers fired back.
One suspect was killed in the shootout. Police have not released any information about that person.
Aerial video from the scene in the area of 26th Place and McDowell Road showed at least two and as many as five people being detained. Two of those people were in handcuffs. Details are still developing so it's not yet clear if those people were suspects or investigative leads.
In addition to dozens of officers from various agencies, video from the scene also showed SWAT and K9 units going door to door.
We do not know yet what or whom they were looking for, but as of 8 a.m., police said the scene was secure and they were no longer looking for any additional suspects.
No other injuries were reported.
