Father arrested for allegedly abusing 9-month-old childPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- A Yavapai County man is behind bars on child abuse and aggravated assault charges for allegedly injuring his 9-month-old child.
Prescott Valley Police responded to a home on July 20 after being told that a child was having a hard time breathing.
The child was taken to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center where it was discovered that the child had a skull fracture.
The child was then flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where doctors learned that the child was also suffering from a subdural hematoma on the right side of the head, and strained neck ligaments.
Authorities went on to learn that the child’s father, 39-year-old Ryan Johnson, had been caring for the child when police were called.
Prescott Valley Police spoke with Johnson, who claimed he didn’t harm his child, but couldn’t explain how the injuries occurred.
Johnson was subsequently booked in to the Yavapai County Jail where his bond was set at $500,000.
The case is still under investigation.
