PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police are investigating a homicide after firefighters found a dead body in a brush fire they put out.

This happened Saturday morning off Dixeletta Road and I-17. Police said a passerby called in the brush fire at around 6 am. When firefighters arrived, they put the fire out and found an adult male, burned and deceased.

Authorities went on to learn that a dark colored, 4-door SUV was seen leaving the scene of the fire. The vehicle is thought to possibly be a Jeep Cherokee, and was towing a small silver or gray utility trailer.

Investigators added that the vehicle left the scene with its lights off, even though it was still dark outside.

Police have not identified the body and the exact cause of death is not yet known. This investigation continues.
