PHOENIX -- DEA agents, with the help of state and local law-enforcement agencies, are serving a series of search warrants at locations throughout the Valley.

Few details were immediately available, but aerial video showed a heavy police presence at a building at Hatcher Road and 15th Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.

Personnel in decontamination suits were visible, as were what appeared to be decontamination tents one street north of the scene.

Several roads in the immediate area were blocked off for a time but have since been reopened.

Officers with the Mesa Police Department reportedly were serving a search warrant, but it's not yet known what they're looking for. The department referred 3TV's inquiries to the DEA.

A DEA spokeswoman confirmed that search warrants were being served at several Valley locations but declined elaborate, saying only that the agency expected to release details at a news conference on Thursday.

As for the haz-mat gear, DEA Special Agent Ramona Sanchez told 3TV's Gibby Parra that is standard procedure in any potentially dangerous operation because search crews never know what they might be walking into.

"In any given situation when we have information that could lead us to any potential haz-mat sites, then we take all the precautionary measures and make sure that we're well-prepared," Sanchez explained. "You can never underestimate anything. In these search warrants we always expect the worst but hope for the best."

At this point, no arrests have been made.

Information will be updated as it becomes available.
