Near-naked man breaks into home, grabs 8-year-old girlPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man is accused of barging into a stranger's apartment Monday afternoon while nearly naked and grabbing and holding an 8-year-old girl by the arm until she was able to break free.
The man, Joshua Reardon, 33, was arrested near the apartment complex at Glendale and 16th avenues.
Police said he was wearing only a ripped T-shirt that barely covered his genitalia.
"It wasn't even a full shirt, it was like he was really stretching it to try to stay around his waist," said Rhiannon, who is nine months pregnant and was resting in the bedroom when she heard a loud slap on the door and heard her daughter scream.
Her two daughters, ages 4 and 8, were in the living room when Reardon pushed the door open and entered. The girls tried to run back to their mom's room, but police said Reardon grabbed the 8-year-old, Brooke, by the arm.
"He grabbed me and I turned around and I was like, 'Let go!'" Brooke said. "I was scared and I couldn't even breathe."
Brooke was able to break free and run into her mother's bedroom. Her mom locked the door and called 911.
"He looked really scary to me, just sweating profusely, he had black eyes, the pupils in his eyes were black, he was super skinny and he was just looking at me like he was out of it," Rhiannon said of Reardon's appearance.
Reardon fled the apartment but frightened other adults and children in the apartment complex who were walking back from a morning at the pool.
Reardon was arrested on charges of burglary, aggravated assault of a minor, criminal trespassing, unlawful imprisonment and indecent exposure.
He was released on bond but is being electronically monitored.
At his initial court appearance he appeared incoherent at times but told the judge he did not do everything he's accused of doing.
