PD: Man accidentally fires gun in Flagstaff McDonald'sPosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Flagstaff police said a man accidentally fired a gun inside a McDonald's on Highway 89 Saturday afternoon.
Police spokesman Sgt. James Jackson said Justin Maccrae Smith, 24, of Flagstaff, had placed an un-holstered firearm in the back of his pants before entering the business.
Smith was standing in line waiting to order when he began leaning against the counter and adjusting his pants, according to Jackson. The firearm discharged and a bullet struck the tiled wall behind him then hit the floor, causing flying debris.
At least one person standing nearby was struck in the leg and/or foot with the debris from the bullet fragment or the tile from the wall.
No one sustained significant injuries and no one had to be transported for medical treatment.
Upon completion of the investigation, the Coconino County attorney's office will decide whether to press charges against Smith.
