WICKENBURG, Ariz. -- The heavy rains that hit the Wickenburg area on Saturday night claimed the life of one man.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said that a 65-year-old was on his way home when he attempted to drive through running water that was crossing over the road.
The man’s SUV was swept down a wash and he was trapped inside the vehicle. Rescuers transported the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Wickenburg fire officials said a total of four swift water rescues were performed on Saturday evening. Three other people suffered minor injuries.
The Crown King area also experienced flooding on Saturday evening. Some of the roads in the area have been washed out due to the heavy storms that hit the state.
Rain will remain a possibility for the Valley on Sunday. The high is expected to be around 99, with about a 30 percent chance of rain.
There is also a flash flood watch in effect for northern portions of the state.
