GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A 1-year-old girl is recovering and alert and breathing after being pulled from a backyard pool in Glendale Friday afternoon.
The girl, identified as Naveah Norwood by family members, was found by her grandmother floating face down in the pool.
A good Samaritan who happened to be passing by on his way to work heard cries for help and ran in to administer CPR.
"I ran inside and saw the grandmother has the baby in her arms and she's shaking, 'my baby, my baby,' I grabbed the baby for her and put her on the bed and started to do CPR," said Ray Espinoza.
The girl's uncle, Aaron Walker, said the family is thankful to Espinoza
"He's our angel," Walker said.
Authorities believe Naveah's 3-year-old brother opened the back door and she walked outside and slipped into the pool.
Mike Young, a spokesman for the Glendale Fire Department, said there is a fence around the pool but it was left open.
It is unknown how long the girl was in the water.
