Woman hit, killed crossing Phoenix streetPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A 58-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car while walking across Van Buren Street in Phoenix Thursday evening.
Maria Rivas-Castro was in a crosswalk in the area of 32nd Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. when she was struck by a westbound 1996 Nissan Sentra, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
Rivas-Castro was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
The 32-year-old man who was driving the Nissan was not injured.
Thompson said the driver was evaluated and police believe he was not impaired.
The case is ongoing and charges are pending.
