EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Nobody is more surprised to see Steve Nash holding a gold Lakers jersey than the two-time MVP guard himself.
Los Angeles formally welcomed Nash to its training complex Wednesday, a week after reaching a deal to get the superstar point guard from the Suns.
Nash says he never imagined playing for the Lakers during the past 16 years spent in fierce rivalries with this glamorous franchise. Now he's eager to run pick-and-rolls with Kobe Bryant.
After entertaining more lucrative free-agent offers back East, Nash chose the Lakers for the chance to be close to his three children in Phoenix while still contending for titles.
The eight-time All-Star is fifth on the NBA's career list with 9,916 assists. His accurate outside shooting also will fill a major need for the Lakers.
