Justin Bieber concert tickets turn out to be bogusPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Like a lot of kids, 5-year-old Kylie Acton has what's known as Bieber Fever. So she was excited when she found out Justin Bieber is kicking off his Believe Tour this September right here in the Valley.
“She's hard to explain,” Kylie’s mom, Amber Acton, said. “She's such a tomboy so this is the first time she's liked anybody.”
Tickets to all the stops on the tour sold out in less than an hour after going on sale in June.
That’s why Amber turned to Craigslist for tickets and found what she thought was a good deal: two tickets near the stage for $160.
She called the man selling them, and later met him at a gas station on I-17 and Peoria to buy them.
“He came up to the door, gave me the tickets, I looked at them,” Amber said. “I had never had Ticketmaster tickets, I didn't know what to look for, they looked legit to me.”
While they may have looked legit, Amber says she still felt suspicious. She asked the seller for his driver’s license and managed to snap a picture of it.
It's a good thing she did because she later found out those legit-looking tickets were fake.
She said three things pointed her to that conclusion. The price printed on the tickets was a few dollars off, the ink smudged, and the barcodes on both tickets were the same, she said. Legitimate Ticketmaster tickets each have their own unique barcode.
But that wasn’t the only surprise Amber received.
Turns out, Brian Greely has a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation.
He’s been on probation since 2011 after he was arrested for allegedly pimping prostitutes, and now, he was selling fake Justin Bieber tickets?
“You're breaking the hearts of these young girls that think they got good tickets and they don't,” Amber said.
3 On Your Side tried calling Greely but all his phone numbers are disconnected.
We also went to his Phoenix apartment where he told adult probation he was living but the woman now living there said Greely moved out months ago.
Maricopa County Adult Probation tells 3 On Your Side it hasn't been able to locate Greely either.
As for Amber, she's glad she realized before the night of the concert that the tickets were fake.
“I told her she was going and to go up to the gate and be told that these aren't valid tickets, I would be devastated. She would be too,” Amber said.
Luckily, Amber was able to score two other -- legitimate -- tickets so Kylie can still go to the show.
