PHOENIX -- Grand Canyon University and the Phoenix Police Department are partnering to help get rid of violent crime, drugs, and blight on and around campus.

Property crimes such as burglaries and theft are the biggest problem, according to Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia.

"Officers will be using a variety of tactics, including undercover work," Garcia said Thursday.

GCU ponied up about $100,000 to help supplement the cost of officers' equipment and overtime.  That will be matched by the department.

GCU is growing faster than ever, with about 7,000 students expected to attend in the Fall. Just four years ago, only about 1,000 students attended GCU.
