Fourth of July monsoon floods homes, streets in Arizona City

ARIZONA CITY, Ariz. --  In a part of the country where any rain is welcome, a couple blocks of Arizona City may be the exception.

"I wasn’t too worried about it. I never thought about my house flooding," said Jeanie Richardson.

She's only lived here seven months and was shocked to see her side of town below the water line in under two hours.

From the living room to the bedroom, even the bathroom, no space was spared. The water had enough force to ruin Richardson’s home, both inside and out.

"All these pavers we put down? Look how uneven they are now," said Richardson about her recently revamped backyard.

But it’s not the repairs that get her. It’s that she wasn’t warned.

"It makes me really upset, because no one tells you anything and that’s not right," she said. "Someone should have told us this was a flood area."

But now it’s too late. So much for a warm welcome to a normally very dry desert.

"It’s unreal. I’d never believe something like this would happen in Arizona," Richardson added.
