Phoenix weather: June hotter than average; thunderstorms coming

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- June 2012 turned out to be the second warmest June on record for metro Phoenix. That's a bit of a surprise considering we only set one record high, 111, on June 1.

The reason is our morning lows were much higher than average, dragging the overall temperature up.

In fact, so far in 2012 we've only had seven days with temperatures of 110 or more. That's not really all that bad for us in early July, especially compared to a year ago.

Monsoon storms will be on the increase this week. A nice plume of moisture is due into southeastern Arizona Tuesday PM through early Thursday.

At this point, it looks like we have a pretty decent chance for thunderstorms beginning Tuesday night through Wednesday, July Fourth. Also, with increased humidity, we'll also see high temperatures drop into the 90s.
