COCONINO NATIONAL FOREST, Ariz. -- Highway 87 has been closed for a second time due to the Canyon Fire.
Fire officials decided to close the road again on Sunday due to thick smoke and a concern for public safety.
Highway 87 was first closed on Saturday after the fire spotted across the road in some places. Highway 87 was opened for a brief period on Sunday before being closed again.
The Canyon Fire, which was started by lightning, has been burning about 15 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir since Friday. The flames cover more than 5,000 acres.
No structures have been threatened by the fire, and no evacuations have been ordered.
