Section of Highway 87 closed due to Canyon FirePosted: Updated:
COCONINO NATIONAL FOREST, Ariz. -- The Canyon Fire burning in the Coconino National Forest has caused road closures.
Fire officials have announced that Highway 87 has been closed down approximately 20 miles northeast of the Lake Mary Road and Highway 87 intersection.
People traveling in the area should expect the road to remain closed for all of Saturday.
The Canyon Fire is located about 15 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir near Highway 87 in the Jacks Canyon area.
The blaze, which was first reported on Friday, was caused by lightning and covers 1,000 acres.
No structures have been threatened by the fire, and no evacuations have been ordered.
