SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A man is behind bars on murder and kidnapping charges after he allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times on Friday morning.

Scottsdale Police arrested Joseph Michael Matthews, 25, after he reportedly killed 23-year-old Crystal MacMartin at his Scottsdale apartment complex at 11260 N. 92st.

Authorities said MacMartin was working as an escort when she arrived at Matthews’ residence. She was reportedly stabbed multiple times with a knife.

Workers at the apartment complex found MacMartin lying on the sidewalk near the apartment.

Police arrived to discover that she was not breathing. They also noticed a trail of blood from MacMartin back to the nearby apartment.

Officers found Matthews and blood inside the apartment. The knife was also found at the scene.

Authorities said a motive is not yet known, and they continue to investigate the case.
