Three arrested following burglary, chase in MesaPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- Three people were arrested Wednesday afternoon following a burglary at a Mesa home.
Police were called to the area of 2000 E. Quartz after a husband and wife returned home to discover that two armed men were in their house.
"I stepped back out and closed the door and called 911and gave them the license plate and description of a vehicle that was parked idling in front of the house and told them I believe we are being robbed," said the husband, who asked not to be identified.
The suspects fled the residence after the husband entered the home, and left the scene in an SUV.
A rear door was found to have been kicked open, and only a few items were missing from the house.
The husband attempted to locate the suspects by driving down Gilbert Road, but it was a Mesa Police Sergeant stationed at a pawn shop on Main near Stapley who eventually located the two men.
Shortly after the burglary, the suspects’ SUV pulled up to the pawn shop and the men spent a short amount of time inside the store.
Police attempted to make a traffic stop after the men left the pawn shop, but they proceeded to drive off.
The suspects eventually parked their vehicle on a canal near Pueblo and Lindsay, and jumped over a wall into a neighborhood.
A woman inside the SUV also attempted to avoid arrest, but was apprehended when she failed to get over the wall.
Police went on to locate the two men a short time later in the neighborhood.
The suspects told police they had thrown their guns from their vehicle near Gilbert and Main. Police were able to locate both firearms, and discovered that one had been reported stolen.
One of the suspects has been identified as 22-year-old Travis Dean Schuetz.
The other man involved and the female passenger are both juveniles.
All three suspects are facing numerous charges including burglary, misconduct involving weapons, and theft of means of transportation.
