PHOENIX -- We all know what it's like to hit that afternoon low. This is when our energy sources are most depleted and we are looking for ways to wake ourselves up so we can feel re-energized and ready to tackle the later part of our day.
Instead of reaching for that candy bar or that cup of java,which will give you an energy boost but then sink you back into a low, we’re going to show you some exercises and stretches to reset and re-energize your body naturally.
Also keep in mind that while moving the body is important it is also critical to stay hydrated and if you need a snack, go with something that will provide sustainable energy. That include protein, some carbs and a little healthy fat.
Stretches and exercises
1. Side stretch – Inhale while raising your arms over head. Interlace your fingers and place them behind your head. Exhale as you lean to your right side sending your right elbow down toward your right hip. Repeat on the other side. Do two on each side.
2. Dive into pool stretch – Reach your arms overhead, exhale as you round your spine, forming the letter “C” shape.
3. Heart opener – Inhale while raising your arms over head. Interlace your fingers and place them behind your head. Exhale as you push your hips forward while lifting your chin up to the celling. While leaning slightly back, pull your elbows back and open your heart.
4. One of the best ways to get oxygen in your lungs and get your blood pumping is to go outside for some fresh air and take a nice brisk five-minute mini-walk!
