Officials: Don't drink the water in Pine-Strawberry areaPosted: Updated:
The company says it's having trouble maintaining a consistent water supply in the system. In a public notice from district manager Brad Cole sent out Tuesday afternoon, customers are being advised to "not use water for any purposes, particularly drinking, cooking or bathing, until further notice."
Cole said parents should not use tap water to prepare infant formula nor should people use water to prepare medications.
The notice says there are several factors contributing to the situation, "including extreme temperatures and related water demands combined with some mechanical issues and the water levels in source supply wells."
While water might be running in many areas, the quality is questionable. With that in mind, PSWID is being cautious.
Cole anticipated that the low water and unstable water quality could be an issue for the next 24 to 48 hours.
In the meantime, customers who are affected can pick up drinking water at the PSWID office located at 6306 West Hardscrabble Road. The office will be open 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
"If you do not have service within the affected areas there is currently no need for supplemental drinking water and PSWID asks that you refrain from obtaining available bottled drinking water to help ensure it is available for those who need it," the notice reads.
The public notice also advises all PSWID customers to cut back on their water usage. That means no watering lawns, filling swimming pools, washing cars or doing laundry. Basically, the district wants people to hold off on "any other non-essential water use" for the time being.
Cole said PSWID is working as fast as it can to return service to normal.
