PHOENIX -- St. Mary's Food Bank received a big donation Tuesday just in time for the rising temperatures.

Rent-A-Center gave 12 Whirlpool refrigerators to the food bank at the Food Bank's Del E. Webb Distribution Center."

The donation will allow St. Mary's Food Bank and its partners to keep more fruits and vegetables fresh for needy families.

"We don't have a grocery store in our city," said Gary Biancini, with Living Hope Helping Hands. "We have 5,000 people so this helps to have refrigeration and people can get more food." Biancini's organization is in the small community of Arizona City, Ariz, which is south of Phoenix.

The new refrigerators are also more energy efficient than the food bank's current refrigerators.

The donation was part of RAC's "Soup to Nuts" program, which helps fight against hunger not only in Arizona, but around the United States.

Rent-A-Center has donated enough funds for nearly 300,000 meals to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance alone in the past two years.
