PHOENIX -- Hikers here in the Valley will soon be able to use their smartphone to navigate trails.

Smartphone friendly signs are going to be placed on posts along hiking trails throughout the city.

The new signs will include a code that hikers can scan with their phones to get information about the trail they’re on.

“People are ecstatic when they see these things. To be honest with you our trail post signage now is pretty meager,” said David Urbinato of Phoenix Parks & Recreation.

The new signs will provide hikers with information about distances and locations, and provide a picture of the incline and decline of the trail.
