PHOENIX -- The high in Phoenix on Friday was about 103 degrees. We expect hotter temperatures for the weekend, with highs approaching 110.

Friday was the first "official" day of the Arizona monsoon season. Monsoon season is brought on by a shift in the winds which brings rain and thunder to Phoenix and the rest of the state.

Monsoon season can also include severe dust storms known as haboobs.

Arizona actually experienced some isolated thunderstorms in the northeast on Friday afternoon. We may also see a few isolated thunder storms in eastern Arizona over the weekend.

Monsoon season will last until September 30.
