TEMPE, Ariz. -- No one in the state of Arizona eats hot dogs quite like Erik Denmark.
On Saturday, Denmark won the state qualifier for a fifth time to earn a spot in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Denmark ate 30 and a half hot dogs in ten minutes during the competition at the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe.
Denmark’s happy to have another shot at next month’s competition, particularly because he’s paid the price during training.
“It’s not pretty. It’s a lot of time in the bathroom, a lot of time in the kitchen making hot dogs trying to get your stomach to stretch out,” said Denmark.
The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place on the Fourth of July on Coney Island, New York. Coverage of the contest will air on ESPN.
