Gov. Brewer lowers flags for firefighterPosted: Updated:
SELLS, Ariz. -- Governor Jan Brewer has ordered that flags be lowered Saturday in honor of the Yuma firefighter who lost his life on Friday.
Anthony Polk, 31, died when his truck rolled over while on his way to the Montezuma Fire in the Baboquivari Mountains.
Gov. Brewer has asked that people keep Polk and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
“These are men and women who endure the long hours, difficult conditions and –of course – the danger. Men and women like Anthony Polk. Best of all, they do it in order to protect the lives and property of people they have never met and likely never will,” said Brewer.
Crew members Andy Rosales, 29, and John Villicana, 25, were also injured in the accident. They were taken to Sells Hospital where they were treated and released.
An investigation into the crash is being conducted by the Tohono O’odham Police Department. A cause of the accident has not yet been announced.
