PHOENIX -- A man is facing multiple criminal charges following a fatal accident on Tuesday.

Alejandro German, 21, was reportedly driving westbound at 7100 West Indian School Road when his GMC van struck the rear corner of a Nissan Altima that was also driving westbound.

German’s vehicle then crossed the center line and collided with a Saturn that was heading eastbound. A Chevy pickup that was also traveling eastbound struck the back of the Saturn.

The driver of the Saturn was not wearing a seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim had three children. Child Protective Services were notified and are assisting with custody of the children.

The driver of the Nissan suffered only a minor injury, while the driver of the Chevy pickup suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

German was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators have processed him as an impaired driver. Speed is also believed to have been a factor in the accident.

German has been booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault, and two counts of endangerment.
