Police searching for suspect in deadly hit-and-run wreck

PHOENIX -- Investigators are trying to locate a vehicle and driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run collision.
It happened just after 8:30 p.m. Monday at 24th Street and University Drive just south of the Interstate 10/Interstate 17 Split.
According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department, Leon Campbell, 66, was in the roadway when either a pickup truck with a camper shell or an SUV hit him. Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle fled.
Police are now trying to locate that pickup or SUV and identify the driver.
The description of the suspect vehicle is vague. Police say it's a light color and might have significant front-end damage. Also, there's a tire rack on the back.
