PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- The owner of a Prescott home that burned down was arrested for arson.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Steven Hammes, 51, on June 1 after an investigation indicated the fire at his home was intentionally set, according to spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn.

Firefighters from the Prescott Fire Department and Central Yavapai Fire District responded to the home in the 1000 block of Greyhawk Point Drive, which is east of Sweet Acres off of Senator Highway, at 8:30 p.m. on May 31.

Embers ignited brush in the area, but crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures and wilderness areas.

The home was a total loss and the spot fire was limited to one acre. No one was injured.

Further details have not been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

Hammes was indicted on charges including arson, endangerment and criminal damage. He remains in custody on a $1 million bond.
