Cancer survivor shares storyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Valley woman is back to enjoying life after conquering cancer.
Tory Smith’s life took an unexpected turn one day when she discovered that a spot on her back was starting to change shape.
Smith said she decided to pay a visit to her dermatologist, which is when she was diagnosed with stage two skin cancer.
Smith admitted that she was in a bit of denial after being diagnosed. Fortunately, doctors were able to remove the cancer before it had spread.
Now that she’s cancer free, Smith is finding new ways to enjoy the sun and maintain a nice complexion.
She always wore sunscreen, but now when she’s in the sun for extended periods of time she makes sure to cover herself with a hat and sleeves.
Smith also uses spray tans and self tanner to keep her skin a healthy color.
Smith is just one of the many people who celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday. The annual celebration takes place on the first Sunday in June.
